The Kid Whisperer Podcast Featuring Scott Ervin and Pat Kiely: Episode 18

Topics in this episode include:

  1. I teach fourth grade. My question is about putting students in teams. I have been pretty successful keeping them in the same team all year. I am just wondering what you suggest when a team isn’t working out for the teacher? For example, some of my students have become very good friends throughout the school year and are talking excessively being in the same team. I would love to separate them.

  2. Same teacher here, but with a follow-up question! I am also worried for next year. I have spoken to teachers of upcoming students so that I can try to put them in the best teams possible during the start of the school year, but I can see it’s going to be a very tricky group. What do I do if I realize during the first week of school that I made a mistake and should not have put certain students in the same team?

  3. My ten-year-old son has a friend who is pretty poorly behaved. I've heard several stories (from my son, who is a reliable reporter) about this kid lying, taking stuff that isn't his, being mean to other kids, etc. At what point do I need to say something to this kid's parents? I have not personally witnessed this behavior, but the stories I hear from my son make me feel like the parents need to be clued in to what's going on.
